State Representative Leighton Schubert proudly represents District 13 in the Texas House of Representatives, which includes Austin, Burleson, Colorado, Fayette, Grimes, Lavaca and Washington Counties. He serves on the House Committee on County Affairs and the House Committee on Corrections.
Representative Schubert was elected in a special election while the 84th Legislative Session was already underway and was a strong advocate for his constituents from day one. Schubert has proven to be a strong conservative voice in the Texas Legislature and has been recognized by numerous organizations for his leadership. Specifically, Schubert received an "A" rating and has been endorsed by the National Rifle Association and the Texas State Rifle Association, was named a "Champion of Free Enterprise" by the Texas Association of Business and "2015 Effective Conservative Lawmaker" by the Conservative Roundtable of Texas, and endorsed by Texas Right to Life, Texans for Life, and the Texas Southwest Cattle Raisers Association.
Prior to being elected to the Texas Legislature, Schubert had a distinguished career in public service at the county, state and federal levels of government. He served in the Harris County Office of Legislative Relations, as a law clerk for the Attorney General of Texas, as a staff assistant to a U.S. Senator, and with the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. and in South America.
Born and raised in District 13, Representative Schubert graduated from Snook High School before attending Texas A&M University where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Communication. Schubert went on to earn his law degree from South Texas College of Law.
After law school Representative Schubert opened his law office in Caldwell, where he lives with his wife Brittany. Schubert is involved in numerous community and service organizations, including the Lions Club, Rotary Club, and Chamber of Commerce.
